Online Craps Guide
Online Craps Game Rules
The aim of the game is to correctly guess the outcome of the throw of two dice. The most confusing part of the game is in understanding which bets can be placed.
Pass Line Bet: This is the first bet that is placed in a game of craps. It must be placed before the come out roll (first dice throw). This bet wins if the come out roll is 7 or 11 and loses if the come out roll is 2, 3 or 12.
Don’t Pass Line Bet: This is the opposite of the pass line bet and wins if the come out roll is 2, 3 or 12 and loses if the come out roll is 7 or 11.
Point Number: This is established with the come out roll if it is a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10. The shooter then continues to roll the dice. If the point number is rolled first, the pass line bet will win, while if a 7 is rolled first, the pass line bet will lose.
You can enjoy a game of craps online with just these bets; however, if you are looking for a bit of variety you will be happy to know that there are many other bets that can be placed.
Place Bets: Once the point number has already been established, you can bet on a specific number. If the number is rolled before a 7, the place bet wins and if a 7 is rolled before the number, the place bet loses.
Big 6 or Big 8 Bets: A bet on the number 6 or 8 being rolled before a 7.
Field Bets: A bet on the shooter rolling a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12. The bet loses if the shooter rolls a 5, 6, 7 or 8.
Odd Bets: This can be placed after the point number has been established and it wins if a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 are rolled.
Proposition Bets: There are a number of proposition bets available in the game and with the exception of hardways bets they are all one-roll bets.
Hardways Bets: A bet on the numbers 4, 6, 8 or 10, made up of identical dice throws.
Seven: Wins if the shooter rolls a 7.
Eleven: Wins if the shooter rolls an 11.
Ace Deuce: Wins if the shooter rolls a 3.
Aces or Boxcars: Wins if the shooter rolls a 2 or 12.
Any Craps: Wins if the shooter rolls a 2, 3 or 12.
Horn Bet: Wins if the shooter rolls a 2, 3, 11 or 12.
Bets will be paid out after each dice roll, according to the payable of the game.

Online Craps Odds
When trying to understand the odds of online casino games such as craps you must understand the different bets that can be placed and the chance of winning that bet compared to the payout for winning. In general, there is a discrepancy between the odds and the payout and this results in the casino’s house edge.
You need to try to find a balance between the odds of winning the bet and the payout you can receive for doing so. For example, a horn bet has odds of as high as 35:1 and a house edge of 16.66% making it a bet that is best avoided. Other bets with poor odds and a high house edge include the eleven bet with odds of 17:1 and a house edge of 16.66%, and the hard ways bet with a house edge of 11.11%.
You can increase your odds by finding bets with a low house edge. The lowest house edge in the game is for the Don’t Pass bets and the Don’t Come bets which have a house edge of 1.402%. Similarly, the Pass Line bets and Come bets have a house edge of 1.414%.
The game of craps online actually offers a free odds bet. This is a bet that has no house edge!
This bet can be placed together with a Pass bet, Don’t Pass bet, Come bet or Don’t Come bet. These bets offer true odds, meaning that if the bet has 2:1 odds that you will win, then it will pay out 2:1.
Online Craps Popular Bets
The pass line is just the tip of the iceberg. There are many other bet types to try your hand at. We’ll walk you through the most popular bet types.
Don’t Pass
This bet is basically the opposite of the pass line bet. In traditional Craps in a land-based casino, this would have you bet against ‘shooter’ (the person rolling the dice), which was an awkward bet to make when you’re in the same room. However, playing online you don’t have to worry about getting on the wrong side of anyone.
Come/Don’t Come
Similar to the pass line and don’t pass bets but the wager is placed after the point has been set.
Place to win/ place to lose
Place win bets are made post come-out roll and when a point has already been established. You can wager on a place win bet on a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10, and you’ll win if the point is rolled before a 7. On the other hand you can wager a ‘place to lose’ bet, in which you’re betting that a 7 will be rolled before the point.
Buy
Similar to a place bet in that you are betting on a specific number being rolled before a 7, but with higher payouts. However, you do have to pay a 5% commission either when you place the bet, or only when you win – it depends on the online casino you are dealing with.
Lay
A lay bet also works on commission, but you bet on a 7 being rolled before a specific number, again similar to a place lose bet.
How To Play Online Craps Like A Professional
While Craps may have a huge luck factor, there is more to winning than just rolling the dice. If you want to play like a pro, you need to learn the bets. Get to grips with the Pass Line, then move on to another two or three standard bets and slowly build up your knowledge.
You can do this by playing Craps for free online. Many online casino offer game to play just for fun, which is a great place to put into practice your betting knowledge.
Online Craps Strategies
As well as knowing the types of bets, if you want a winning strategy then you should also be aware which bets offer the best odds. For example, a Pass Line bet has a low house edge of about 1.4%, while an Any Seven bet is at 16.67%.
A good strategy will include the Pass/Don’t Pass and Come/Don’t Come bets. By sticking to these you’ll be sure to receive the most lucrative odds. Of course a game of only 4 bets would be rather dull, and there are other strategy tricks to up the ante. Betting on Place 6, Place 8, Field 2 and Field 12 will also give you decent odds.
Just as important as knowing what to bet on, is knowing what not to bet on. Stay clear of the Hard-way 4 or a Hard-way 10 bet or any propositional bets. They have high house advantages and will offer poor odds.
Tips for Online Craps
Using or developing your own Craps strategy will not guarantee you jackpot winnings, but it will enhance your game by providing a more exciting and all-round experience.
When you play Craps, your game strategy is centered on the game’s complex betting structure.
The bets in Craps are made up of a variety of single roll and multi roll bets, single number and multi number bets, all of which can only be placed during a specific type of dice roll.
The simple rule of thumb is that the lower the payout, the higher the odds of hitting that winning combination.
Therefore, most players like to mix their bets across the spectrum as they play, creating increased variety and adding an exciting extra dimension to their game.
To maximize your time at the tables further, make sure your overall spend is included in your strategy – decide on how much you want to play with and don’t exceed the limits you set yourself.

Money Management
The huge number of bets possible in a game of online Craps means that staying in control of your bankroll is even more important. Just like any online casino betting, be sure to wager what you can afford to lose.
Bet just a fraction of your bankroll and never go all in. The best way to manage your money is to bet a little over a longer time. This way the small wins can add up, and any losses are kept to a minimum.
Playing and betting at online casino games is also about fun, so in order to keep it that way, gamble responsibly. Build a bankroll with disposable income, something extra that you don’t ‘need’. Then set wagering limits and stick to them. It’s no fun going bust and not being able to pay the rent because you lost it all in a game of Craps.
Opening a Real Money Account
Once you feel confident that you understand all the bets that are available in a game of online craps, you can try your luck playing for real money. In order to do this, you will need to open a real money account.
- Create an account – Fill in the online form with your personal details and contact details. These will be kept safe and private.
- Make a deposit – Go to the cashier of the casino and make a deposit into your account. This can be done using any of the payment methods available. All your financial information is kept secure through data encryption technology.
- Claim your bonus – Bettingtop10 Ireland’s sites offer a Welcome Bonus over your first deposits.
- Start playing – Go to the casino lobby where you will find online craps listed.
Payout
Craps payouts are determined by the likelihood of certains numbers being rolled. So before you place any real-money bets on the game, you should take a look at the odds and the risks.
For example, 2 and 12 are the hardest to hit as they can only come from 1 dice combination, a double 1 or a double 6. Rolling either of these will give you odds of 1:36. The harder the roll, the higher the payout. Doing a little extra research and you’ll find all the odds and payouts for every single bet.
Online Craps Buttons Information
Each online Craps game will look a little different depending on the casino, but they tend to have the same on-screen buttons to enable play.
Roll
After you place your bet, click the roll button to throw the dice.
Repeat
To repeat all the valid bets from the previous round.
Clear All
To clear all bets that can be removed. Every bet except the come and pass bet, plus those that exceed the maximum bet on the odds, can be removed.
Remove
This will remove all bets from the table.
Free Bets
One of the best things about playing at online casinos is the fact that you can play Craps for free. A quick search online will provide you with a whole host of online casinos offering free games with no deposit necessary.
Another good tip is to look for the casinos with the best deposit bonus for register new players. Make your first real-money deposit and you can receive huge amounts of bonus cash to play with, or free bets.
Interesting Facts about Online Craps
While the origins of the game is debatable, one thing that can be agreed on is that it is one of the oldest casino games around. Some say it was first played by Roman soldiers using a pig’s knuckle bone as a dice.
Others believe that our modern day Craps is based on a game called ‘Hazard’ which was supposedly invented in 1125 by Sir William of Tyre during the Crusades.
The Craps table layout that we know and love was created by John H Winn. His table design was the first to give space for the Don’t Pass bets.
