Bryan Nicholson has been involved with gambling in one form or another for most of his adult life. He’s been working in the industry for nearly fifteen years. His journey into producing sports betting content came around by accident of sorts. Being a keen sports bettor and poker player, he frequented a lot of forums and read some blogs and betting sites. He decided to set up his own sports betting blog which provided tips and previews for sporting events. He tracked his progress on his Nicspicks’ blog which became very popular and profitable over the years, mainly for golf betting previews and tips.
Bryan has a background in mathematics and probability. He attended an Engineering course in college. He applies his probabilistic and mathematical skills to sports betting and poker. While blogging, he became well known and started writing for several publications in the sports betting niche. Mostly golf in the beginning, but he has now expanded his portfolio to lots of different content including educational sports betting material as well as sportsbook and betting site reviews. He loves to help people learn all about sports betting in different areas and from several different angles.
Bryan has gone on to write books on sports betting including the popular Angles and Edges and Hypnotised by Numbers titles. He’s now a writer for some big betting brands and companies including Gambling.com Group, Pinnacle and S-Markets.
Best betting sites
Bryan lives in Dublin, Ireland and loves to make a high volume of sports bets. Some of his most frequented betting sites in Ireland include:
- PaddyPower
- Boylesports
- Betfair
- Skybet
- Bet365
These sites are all fair and offer a variety of sports and markets, generous promotions, and competitive odds. Betting limits will always apply at the “high street” bookmakers to anyone who knows what they are doing.
Bryan always had a mathematically curious mind and been fascinated by strategy, numbers, and game theory. Odds and probabilities are the name of the game and from a young age he used to frequent the casinos even though he wasn’t allowed. He excelled at maths in school and played the sports he bets on at a high level. He rolled his passions into one when starting to work and write in the gambling niche.
Best experiences as a writer
Being a golf betting writer and covering several major championship events over the years, Tiger Woods’ comeback to win the green jacket at Augusta in the 2019 Masters was a surreal moment and event. It was highly unlikely and defied the odds. Never underestimate Tiger!
The “Miracle at Medinah” was an event previewed and reviewed by Bryan for Matchbook. The Ryder Cup of 2012 looked to be getting away from the Europeans on a Medinah course that lended itself to a great matchup. Europe trailed 10-6 heading into the final day and needed an 8.5 points haul to win the Ryder Cup. Martin Kaymer defeated Steve Stricker and Fran Molinari halved with Tiger Woods to get the job done and send team captain Jose Maria Olazabal to tears.
As an Irishman who sometimes covers football and betting it was exciting to see the Irish football team in Euro 2016 getting to the knockout phases. Robbie Brady’s goal late on to send us through versus the Italian’s was a great feeling for the nation.
